Public Health Concerns of Malaria Transmission, Prevention and Control and their Impact on Nigeria’s Socio-economy: Implications for Policy and Practice

Topic Overview

Malaria, a disease caused by Plasmodium parasites is a threat to the life and well-being of individuals in endemic countries and Nigeria has the highest burden of disease globally in terms of morbidity and mortality thereby making it a major public health challenge in the country.

The malaria lifecycle is complex involving both human and vector hosts and many intervention programs have recorded successes. However, issues around malaria transmission, prevention and control have threatened the malaria elimination agenda and have impacted the socio-economy of Nigeria including population health, school/work absenteeism, productivity levels, poverty rate, and GDP among others.

The webinar aims to shed more light on multi-prolonged approaches that are needed to address the prevention and control of malaria in Nigeria in order to achieve a malaria- free society and sustainable development goals.
